Job Title Science Teacher (with Chemistry Specialism) Reports To Head of Science Job Type Full-Time Start Date August 2026 The Role We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Science Teacher to join our thriving and well-established Science Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented practitioner to teach across the age and ability range, inspiring a love of science in our pupils. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality science education at Key Stage 3, with a specialism in teaching Chemistry at Key Stages 4 and 5. You will be joining a collaborative, supportive, and successful department committed to academic excellence and innovative teaching. There is also the opportunity to undertake the rewarding pastoral role of a Form Tutor, supporting the personal and academic development of a group of pupils. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, challenging, and well-sequenced lessons across KS3 Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) and KS4/5 Chemistry. Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring every pupil can succeed and make excellent progress. Utilise a range of teaching strategies and practical work to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of scientific concepts. Prepare pupils for GCSE and A-Level (or equivalent) examinations, ensuring thorough coverage of specifications and effective exam technique. Contribute to the development and sharing of high-quality teaching resources within the department. Regularly assess, mark, and provide constructive feedback to pupils in line with school policy. Use assessment data effectively to inform planning and intervention strategies. Complete academic reports and attend parents’ evenings to communicate pupil progress clearly and professionally. Act as the first point of contact for the pastoral care of your form group. Monitor the academic progress, attendance, and wellbeing of tutees. Deliver the school’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme to your form. Work closely with the Head of Year and pastoral team to support pupils. Contribute to the wider life of the school, including participation in open evenings, science clubs, trips, and enrichment activities. Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities and performance management. Uphold and promote the school’s values and ethos at all times. Maintain a safe learning environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations, particularly within science laboratories. Person Specification A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/PGDE or equivalent). An honours degree in Chemistry or a closely related subject. Proven ability to teach Science at KS3 and Chemistry at KS4 (GCSE). Experience with KS5 teaching is highly desirable; applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with a strong specialism are welcome. Strong subject knowledge and a passion for Chemistry and science education. Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils. Commitment to inclusive education and raising the attainment of all pupils. A collaborative team player with excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience of teaching A-Level or equivalent post-16 Chemistry. Experience as a Form Tutor or demonstrable interest in pastoral care. Experience using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
