Position Overview Based in Hong Kong and reporting to the Group Chairman as VP Technical Management (Shipping), and to the Chairman & President of a Taiwanese listed company as Technical Advisor, thus combining both strategic and operational leadership role and mainly overseeing/monitoring/controlling (as applicable) all technical aspects of respective company’s shipping fleet. This executive/advisory role is a full time position, responsible for driving operational excellence in vessel performance, technical reliability, regulatory compliance, asset preservation, cost leadership, organizational design/effectiveness, innovation in people/process/technology to improve productivity, and development of sustainable growth strategy. This candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s long term technical strategy in alignment with corporate goals, leading a high-performing team of maritime professionals, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of vessels across the international fleet. Key Responsibilities 1. Framework Development for New Build Proposals Design a comprehensive framework that outlines criteria for evaluating potential new builds, green fuels, and emerging technologies. Conduct market analysis from technical perspectives to identify trends and opportunities in new vessel acquisitions. Collaborate with stakeholders (internal & external) to ensure alignment with the company's strategic goals. 2. Assessment of Existing Ship Management Structure and draw the roadmap of the improvement areas Perform a thorough review of the current ship management organization and practices including processes, personnel, and tools & technology. Conduct gap analysis and benchmarking with industry best practices and develop a strategy for continuous improvement for achievement of best in class in short, medium, and long term. Conduct regular interviews and surveys with staff to gather insights on operational efficiencies and challenges. Compile a detailed consultancy report for the Chairman, highlighting areas for improvement and recommendations for enhancements. Compose the implementation plan with measurable and quantifiable milestones on deliverables and completion date. 3. Strategic Planning and Team Leadership Evaluate new technologies and methodologies, stay informed about industry trends, and technological advancements to enhance existing fleet performance and sustainability. Develop and implement strategic plans for fleet growth and operational improvements. Lead and develop a team of ship managers and support staff, fostering a culture of high performance and collaboration. 4. Budgeting and Financial Management Prepare and submit the annual fleet budget, highlighting key areas for capital investment and cost management. Conduct regular financial reviews to identify deviations from the budget and implement corrective actions. Engage in forecasting and scenario analysis to anticipate future financial impacts on fleet operations. 5. Compliance and Safety Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with safety management systems and international maritime regulations. Develop and implement safety training programs for crew members to ensure a thorough understanding of safety protocols. Monitor incident reporting and root cause analysis to identify trends and improve safety performance across the fleet. 6. Operational Management Implement and oversee vessel maintenance schedules to ensure compliance with safety regulations and maximize operational uptime. Develop and manage performance metrics to evaluate fleet efficiency and effectiveness. Coordinate with vessel crews and shore staff to address operational challenges and improve response times. 7. Stakeholder Engagement Establish and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and ship owners. Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders on fleet performance, challenges, and strategic initiatives. Facilitate meetings with internal departments to ensure alignment on priorities and operational goals. Immediate Assignment (First 3-6 Months) Within the first six months, the candidate will be responsible for presenting a comprehensive growth strategy and detailed implementation plan to the Group Chairman and the Board. This plan must align stakeholders, seek agreements and obtain the necessary approvals. A thorough financial business case, including a detailed ROI analysis, should be included in the detailed implementation plan. In addition, the candidate will compile a detailed consultancy report for the chairman, highlighting areas for improvement and recommendations for enhancements and compose the implementation plan with measurable and quantifiable milestones on deliverables and completion date. Additional Information After an initial 12-month strategic assignment with defined outcomes, the candidate will have the opportunity to either continue building the shipping legacy within the family office or transition into an executive role to drive the growth of a listed company nurtured by the family office. This dual-path approach allows for career development and engagement with broader business initiatives. Qualifications Proven experience in Fleet management and operations within the shipping or maritime industry. Strong understanding of the ship management sector and market dynamics. Experience in establishing operations in new geographic markets, particularly in Asia. Exceptional leadership, team management and collaboration skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Strategic thinker with a systematic and results-oriented mindset. Education Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus. Experience Minimum of 20 years in ship management, new building and construction, and maritime operations, with at least 8 years in a leadership role. Proven experience in conducting audits for dry bulk and liquid cargo vessels during site inspections before any new sales and purchases (S&P). Skills Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in budgeting and financial analysis. Familiarity with maritime regulations and safety standards.
