Talent & Culture, Asia Corporate & Investment Banking at BBVA Job Purpose & Objectives Lead BBVA’s efforts in APAC from the perspective of loan underwriting of Corporate, PF/Infrastructure, Structured Trade Finance transactions reporting to the Global Head of Loan Syndicate, Sales & Trading (“LSST”). Work closely with London/Madrid based Heads of Corporate and Real-Assets Syndicate. Work closely with APAC based origination teams to identify innovative Originate-to-Distribute opportunities and assess distribution channels (e.g. bank, NBFIs, insurance). Work with the wider LSST teams in New York, London, Madrid and Mexico City to identify liquidity from APAC. Represent the transaction at underwriting and commercial committees. Collaborate with loan sales & trading to identify and develop relationships with investors, perform market soundings to structure/price transactions to clear the market. Key Responsibilities Syndicate responsibilities Participate in pipeline calls with origination teams to identify underwriting opportunities. Provide market updates to origination and coverage teams. Review due diligence of transactions and highlight key risks/mitigating features. Liaise with risk teams in a timely manner on key transactions and present to the Loan Underwriting Committee. Represent transactions at the New Business Committee (“NBC”) in written or oral format. In collaboration with the sales team, develop and manage relationships with key investors. Remain on the leading edge of all new developments in loan markets (country risks, ECAs, sector developments, market appetite for specific sectors and merchant risk, new structuring techniques, pricing/tenors). Execution Managing the syndication of transactions. Overseeing the preparation of syndication/market materials and investor meetings in conjunction with origination teams. Preparing market-directed press releases for individual transactions as applicable. Defining the list of investors (and Non-Payment Insurance as appropriate) in the syndication process with Sales. Preparing syndication status updates for internal and client purposes. Monitoring and reporting of underwriting positions including progress of sell-down and profitability. Conducting post-mortems/lessons learned meetings with teams to improve processes and share market feedback. General Supervision, training and mentoring of junior specialists and interns over time as the team builds up. Fostering cross-selling of CIB products. Overseeing and contributing in internal and external administrative tasks. At least 7 - 10 years of experience in project finance, loan syndications, or debt advisory. Candidates from investment banks, advisory firms, commercial banks (including those with lending + advisory experience) will be most relevant. Languages and technical knowledge Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese (oral and written). Proficiency in Spanish would be an advantage. Interpersonal skills with ability to work directly with clients and also being able to supervise and mentor junior internal resources. Team player but comfortable working independently with limited supervision when needed. Multi-tasker and able to work under time pressure.
