Overview The School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Science (BABS) at UNSW offers undergraduate teaching, postgraduate mentorship, and research across biotechnology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, medical microbiology, and immunology. The Biomedical AI Laboratory, led by A/Professor Vafaee, seeks a Research Associate (Level A) to collaborate on cutting‑edge projects that harness artificial intelligence to analyse omics data. This is a fixed‑term (10 months), part‑time (35 hours per week) position offering $113,000‑$121,000 plus 17 % superannuation and annual leave loading. Responsibilities Lead independent or team research that enhances the quality of outcomes in biological, medical, and computational science. Develop novel approaches and contribute to high‑impact publications and grant proposals. Conduct literature reviews, data collection, methodology development, analysis, and manuscript preparation. Present findings at conferences and workshops. Support research students and align with UNSW’s Code of Conduct and Values. Adhere to health and safety policies. Qualifications PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Expertise in analysing omics datasets and advanced AI/ML methodologies (BERT, GNN, VAE, GANs, GPT, LLMs). Hands‑on experience with NGS bioinformatics pipelines and multi‑omics workflows. Strong publication record and conference presentation experience. Proven ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to relevant training.
