We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Principal Engineer.

Context

Securities Services is a key pillar to HSBC’s transaction banking franchise with connectivity to strategically important clients and geographies. Technology will be instrumental in protecting and growing Securities Services and we play an important role in the wider post trade landscape from critically important infrastructure to innovative client solutions. Our ambitions are to be digitally native and data driven, thus the role of Banks and Broker Dealer Chief Engineer, Securities Services is critical partner to evolving our business, Bank and industry.

Role Purpose:

Responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of technology services through support and maintenance of the estate, and the design, build and delivery of new services.

Four critical aspects of the role are:
  • Partnership with the sector leadership team to own and drive the sector’s technology and delivery strategy and ambitions.
  • Defend the revenue base by ensuring production stability is first-and-foremost, and then delivering on commitments with the client in mind
  • Grow the business, which is ever more dependent on technology and being the face of change and technology to our stakeholder and clients
  • Effectively lead a mixture of technical profiles (~50) across the global with a clear strategy, team engagement and execution plan
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Evangelize and influence engineering best practices within BBD and with the wider engineering community
  • Own and evolve the strategy of the Practice Family within BBD
  • Own the governance around standards and tooling across BBD
  • Collaborate with Platform Leads to define missing standards
  • Support the Platform Leads to drive standards and tools across engineering pods
  • Align approaches with the other Engineering Practices within the organisation
  • Define metrics and monitor efficiencies of the BBD Family initiatives
  • Help address skill gaps in engineering pods by providing upskilling / training opportunities
  • Support the Platform Leads to identify solutions to engineering gaps / challenges
  • Facilitate development of cross-functional capabilities to address common gaps / challenges
  • Help remove blockers on adoption of Engineering initiatives
  • Evangelize good solutions achieved within platforms / pods with the wider engineering community
  • Promote the culture of We build and we maintain
  • Promote re-use rather than re-invent
Requirements

12. Has had experience of presenting to medium / large audiences (50+)

14. Able to listen and evaluate input from a diverse source and identify appropriate next steps

Technical Skill

15. Is tech-forward in thinking, actively researching new ideas / processes and is the driving force to adopt them

16. Is a generalist with the breadth and depth of experience in CICD best practices and has core experience in one of the following areas: Software Development.

17. Secure coding / SDLC / API development / clean code management) Testing (ie. TDD / BDD / Automated testing / Contract testing / API testing) Site Reliability Engineering

Release engineering / Observability / Risk management

18. Can apply their thinking to many problems across multiple technical domains

19. Demonstrates mastery of their technical discipline

20. Contributes to architectural discussions by asking the right questions to ensure a solution matches the business needs
