Job Position Summary

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Software Engineer to work across our IT product which includes developing solutions around our custom in-house PARIS platform.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of robust, sustainable and flexible solutions to best meet strategic goals working alongside other IT team members.

This role plays an important part of Fleet's focus to develop leading digital capability to enhance and improve our platforms deployed on over 630 ships.

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications
As a Software Engineer, your typical day might include:

Developing Front-end and Back-end Software Components

  • Deliver both front-end and back-end components following industry best-practices and in adherence with architectural principles.
  • Provide workable solutions and options that address the immediate problem but consider longer-term objectives.
  • Develop innovative solutions in line with technology trends to demonstrate how IT can help solve problems effectively and efficiently.

Product Design Mindset

  • A focus on developing high-quality solutions that meet business needs but are also simple to maintain.
  • Proactive mindset to spot potential technical issues and make suggestions to avoid issues.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Working closely with other Software Engineers, QA Engineers, UX Designers and Business Analysts to understand customer needs and how to exceed expectations.
  • Collaborate effectively with teams based onshore and in other locations, including Operations, Analytics and Cybersecurity.
  • Communicating clearly and concisely across all levels with other IT team members and IT stakeholders in simple terms.

Relationship:

INTERNAL (based across HK & India)

  • Development & Product Teams; Operations & Cybersecurity; Analytics.

EXTERNAL:

  • Third-party software vendors.

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications
ESSENTIAL

  • Worked as Back End Developer, Front End Developer or Full Stack Developer.
  • Hands-on experience of working with React (minimum 1+ year).
  • Experience with one of the following Databases: Postgres, Oracle or MariaDB.
  • Good analytical skills and ability to work with complex security systems and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience working with Serverless, ELK Stack, AWS and Docker.
  • Thorough understanding of service-oriented architecture including microservices, micro frontends, docker containers, CI/CD, TDD, Ansible, etc.
  • Mobile app development in iOS or Android (and associated frameworks).
  • Practical experience of agile methodologies using either SCRUM, XP, Lean or Kanban.
  • Analysis & Problem Solving: Uses critical thinking to address problems and performs root cause analysis on complex issues.
  • Listening & Communication: Focuses on clear expression and adjusts as necessary to the audience.
  • Collaboration, Inclusion & Teamwork: A good team player that collaborates well with onshore and offshore colleagues.
  • Customer Focus: Understands customer needs and adapts to changing requirements.
  • Planning & Organising: Uses structured project planning for optimal time use and balances competing priorities.
  • Initiative: Challenges existing processes and seeks continuous improvement.
  • Accountability: Responsible for delivery of work without unnecessary supervision and maintains integrity and ethical behavior.
