Information Technology Services Center (ITSC) is responsible for developing and managing the IT infrastructure of the University, and championing the wise use of IT for learning, research and administration activities. The Network Systems Team oversees the support and operations of Campus Network Infrastructure and Data Center. We are looking for talents to fill the positions in the following areas:

(i) Network Systems Support
This role will focus on providing system-level support for network infrastructure and server systems. The appointee will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the network systems including DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, and LoRaWAN, configuration and management of server operating systems. With the adoption of software-defined networking (SDN) technology in network infrastructure to enhance network agility, centralize network control and enable programmability capabilities, the appointee will be involved in the support and implementation of SDN infrastructure. Major responsibilities include but not limited to the following areas:

Design, implement, and manage network systems including DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, LoRaWAN, etc;Assist in installing, configuring, and updating server software including Linux and Windows operating systems, VMware, Hyper-V or KVM virtualization platforms;Develop automation scripts using Ansible and Python and utilize data analytics tools of Elasticsearch and Splunk for network monitoring and troubleshooting; andProvide on-call support that may arise outside regular business hours.

(ii) Data Center and Network Infrastructure Support
This role will focus on maintaining and supporting the network infrastructure of HKUST Campus including network devices configuration, troubleshooting connectivity issues and network performance monitoring. In addition, this appointee will contribute to Data Center infrastructure support including server hardware support, rack management, cable management, and coordinating with manufacturers for server hardware replacements in Data Center. Major responsibilities include but not limited to the following areas:

Provide technical support for Campus Network Infrastructure including the Data Center Network, Campus Wired and Wireless Network and IP Telephony Network;Perform regular network maintenance tasks including firmware upgrades and documentation updates, and provide assistance to end-users regarding network-related inquiries and issues;Manage and maintain the cabling plant infrastructure in Data Center and Wiring Closets;Support Data Center infrastructure including server hardware support (i.e. including disk replacement and coordinating with manufacturers for server hardware replacement etc.) and Data Center facilities monitoring (i.e. power and cooling systems and respond to environmental alerts or alarms etc.); and Provide on-call support that may arise outside regular business hours.


Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline and preferably with relevant work experience in network services and architecture supports. For position (i), applicants should have a strong knowledge of network protocols, server operating systems, programming skills, data analytics tools and SDN architectures. Prior exposure in implementing multi-vendor networking solutions including products from Cisco, Infoblox, DeltaPath, Palo Alto Networks, F5 Networks and Fortinet, etc., would be an advantage. For position (ii), applicants should have experience in configuring and managing network devices (i.e. access points, routers, switches from Cisco, Juniper and Huawei etc.) and strong knowledge of network protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, WLAN, VoIP etc.). The successful candidates should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, and good analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. They should be able to work under pressure with passion and self-initiation. Applicants with less experience or fresh graduate will be considered for the position of Associate IT Specialist. (Duration:2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
