Position Overview

Serves as the primary tax contact for RGA Asia, overseeing the tax function in the region while liaising with the RGA Global Tax department based in the U.S. Performs tax planning analysis and research and makes recommendations to minimize tax liability and tax risk. Monitors Asian tax environment and assists with the review of tax accounting and tax returns and related reports for RGA’s global operations to ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulations. Ensures department alignment and coordination with all other areas of the company to achieve corporate business strategies and vision.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with RGA business contacts in the region to stay apprised of business initiatives while considering relevant tax impacts. Serves as a liaison between the local RGA offices in the region and the RGA Global Tax department based in the U.S. Provides input on tax strategy in the region. Oversees tax aspects associated with growth of the regional business. Monitors the tax landscape in Asia, identifies areas that may impact RGA and communicates these to leadership; assists in impact analysis and process development. Performs tax research, analysis of tax issues, and modeling to determine tax impact and make recommendations. May require preparation of detailed analysis. Assists in overseeing tax audits in the region, including preparation and review of support documentation and making recommendations for audit strategy. Works closely with the VP of International Tax to support corporate projects such as reinsurance deals and M&A activities. Develops procedures necessary for management area of responsibility. Assists with the review of tax returns and other tax compliance activities pertaining to RGA’s operations in Asia, including both income tax and indirect tax. Works closely and effectively with other team members with this area of responsibility. Reviews taxable income calculations for purposes of quarterly tax provisions. Coordinates with U.S. Global Tax team for US GAAP reporting and regional finance teams for local statutory reporting. Coordinates and maintains relationships with regional external consultants and RGA associates. Maintains frequent contact with management and staff associates in finance, valuation, treaties, and administration to facilitate accomplishment of department objectives. Acts as a resource and provides assistance to internal and external clients. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Tax 12+ years tax experience with a minimum of 6+ years working in international (cross-border) taxation Advanced experience practicing tax in Asian countries (e.g., Singapore, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong) 4+ years supervisory or management experience Occasional regional travel and travel to the U.S. on an annual basis

Preferred:

Chartered Accountant or Certified Public Accountant certification or equivalent 3+ years public accounting experience Knowledge of transfer pricing Insurance/reinsurance experience

Skills and Abilities

Required:

Advanced communication skills in both written and spoken English Additional language abilities other than English (Chinese, Japanese and/or Korean) is preferred Basic Word, advanced Excel and SQL/Query skills  Advanced knowledge of broad business practices Advanced skills in managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility Ability to work independently Advanced persuasion skills when working with internal and external partners to resolve issues/problems Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by internal and external contacts. Ability to communicate complex tax issues to senior management in a concise manner with the ability to establish credibility and decisiveness. Advanced ability to investigate, analyze and solve complex problems/issues Advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines Knowledge of tax accounting practices and procedures including GAAP and Statutory accounting methodologies, disclosure and reporting Advanced knowledge of international technical tax issues in the Asia region and familiarity with transfer pricing concepts Advanced ability to work well within a team and foster a teamwork environment
