Fabric & materials manager (woven sourcing & development)

Hong Kong, Hong Kong SARTalent Acquisition Partner - Specialize in Fashion Retailing Our partner is a well-known apparel brand and is currently looking for a Fabric and Materials Sourcing Manager. The ideal candidate will have a tertiary education in textiles or a related discipline, a strong technical background, and working experience in the fashion design field. The role requires market research of fabric trends, understanding competitors' fabric choices, and having strong connections with China's fabric and materials suppliers. Excellent presentation and negotiation skills are also essential. The position requires occasional business trips to China for sourcing and vendor visits. Duties and Responsibilities: Source and Develop Fabric: Identify and develop seasonal fabrics (woven, cut & sewn knits) to meet the needs of the Design team. Sample Fabric Management: Oversee sample fabric ordering, delivery, and price negotiation. Trend Analysis and Reporting: Proactively highlight new developments to the Design team, working closely with the Design Manager/Chief Designer to develop product concepts and interpret the needs to vendors. Attend Fabric Shows: Participate in fabric shows to gain new ideas on fabric development. Sourcing Network Expansion: Expand the sourcing network and regularly evaluate the performance of fabric mills. Innovative Sourcing: Initiate new fabric ideas, material sourcing, and price negotiations. Product Development Meetings: Attend key meetings to provide insights and updates. Business Trips: Undertake occasional business trips to China for sourcing and vendor visits. Qualifications: Education: Tertiary education in textiles or a related discipline. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the industry. Possess in-depth knowledge of fiber, weaving, dyeing and finishing, inspection procedures, and testing methods for textiles. Technical Skills: Solid experience in fashion fabric development and a strong understanding of China fabric markets. Fashion Sense: Strong fashion sense and hands-on experience working with designers preferred. Knowledge: Sound fabric and lab test knowledge. Computer Skills: Proficient in PC applications, including Excel and Word. Communication and Negotiation: Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Time and People Management: Good time management and people management skills. Language Skills: Proficient in spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin).
